In June 2011, MPI secured a contract from the Provincial Government of East Java for the development of a 2x55 MW geothermal power plant at Ijen. A geology and geophysics (G&G) study to determine the geothermal reserves at the site was conducted in 2012. Currently, Medco Power has drilled exploratory wells, and has succeeded in finding hot steam reserves.
