Water Management

As part of complying to our HSE Policy, we regulate our water usage in our operations. We at MedcoEnergi are commited to manage water use to minimise any impact on the environment. Water is predominantly used for our supporting offices, with a small portion required for our oil & gas production activities. Adoption of water recycling to reduce our intake of treated water is used by employing reinjection technology and collecting rainwater in our facilities.

Managing our Produced Water
Our management of produced water at MedcoEnergi adheres to this three-fold strategy: discharging the treated water into a water body, reinjecting it into an injection well, and allowing it to be managed by other entities. Our produced water is treated at our Produced Water Treatment (PWT) facilities to lower the concentration of hydrocarbons, chemicals, and hazardous substances to levels that align with relevant regulations and standards.

Managing our Wastewater
Across most ranges of our assets, domestic wastewater is treated at our Waste Water Treatment Plants (WWTPs). Thus creating regularly monitored effluents to ensure complete compliance with regulations mandated by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (MoEF) and maintaining it to levels lower than the Threshold Limit Value (TLV) before discharging.

Further reading on our water management can be found in MedcoEnergi’s Sustainability Report.

In Medco Power, withdrawn water is used to generate power in our mini hydro power plant, where the water directed to turbines is used only once before being immediately returned to the environment without substantial changes in quality.
