Our Commitment to a Just Energy Transition
As we advance toward our climate goals and reduce our carbon footprint, we recognize that the path to a low-carbon future must be just, inclusive, equitable, and people-centered. We are committed to ensuring that our decarbonization efforts deliver not only environmental benefits but also social and economic opportunities for those who are most affected by the energy transition.
To align with the International Labour Organization's (ILO) Just Transition Guidelines, the Paris Agreement, the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGP), we are embedding fair-minded transition approaches into our climate change strategies. This means addressing and prioritizing the potential impacts of change, both risks and opportunities, for workers and communities.
Our just transition efforts are guided by these four priority areas:
- Worker Retention and Re- and/or Upskilling: We are investing in training and workforce development programs to equip our employees with the skills they need for emerging roles in a low-carbon economy, ensuring continuity of employment and access to new career paths.
- Social Dialogue and Stakeholder Engagement: We believe that inclusive, continuous engagement with our stakeholders, especially workers and local communities, is critical to building trust and shaping fair transition strategies.
- Social Protection and Social Impact Management: We are committed to identifying and managing the potential social impacts of our transition, and supporting appropriate measures for social protection and well-being, particularly in affected regions.
- Supporting Access to Decent and Green Jobs: We aim to promote inclusive access to safe and environmentally sustainable employment opportunities across our operations and supply chains.
