BackEnvironmental Program: Environmental Preservation Action

MedcoEnergi demonstrates its commitment to environmental conservation by supporting the government's Climate Change Adaptation and Disaster Mitigation (APIMB) program in the Tarakan Block, North Kalimantan. In 2014, Medco E&P signed a collaborative agreement with the Tarakan City Government to implement APIMB initiatives aimed at rehabilitating the ecosystem and enhancing community empowerment in the surrounding Tarakan forest area. The key objectives of this program are:

  • Ecosystem Restoration: Enhance the ecological health of the target area.
  • Community Empowerment and Livelihood Diversification: Reduce community dependence on forest resources by providing alternative income-generating opportunities. This fosters a greater sense of community ownership and responsibility for long-term conservation efforts.
  • Improved Community Wellbeing: Promote the social and economic wellfare of communities residing near the conservation area.

APIMB activities are carried out through a multifaceted approach:

  • Replantation: Reintroduction of native plant species to support ecosystem recovery.
  • Agro-Silvopastoral Systems Development: Implementation of sustainable land-use practices that integrate trees, crops, and livestock.
  • Community-Based Nurseries: Empowering local communities to propagate plant life for conservation purposes.
  • Rare Plant and Animal Conservation: Targeted initiatives to protect endangered flora and fauna within the ecosystem.
  • Capacity Building: Provide training and mentorship programs to equip community members with the skills necessary for successful organic farming practices.

MedcoEnergi remains committed to environmental preservation and community empowerment through various initiatives and collaborations, strengthening its dedication to sustainability and community well-being.
